Amanda Soffia Aguilar Carvajal, Civil Engineering student at the Federico Santa María Technical University and alumna of the SUSI 2020 program in Social Entrepreneurship.
We asked her to answer the following three questions:
What does science mean to you?
For me, science is the explanation of everything that surrounds us and that is born from our curiosity and passion to observe and to think about every natural phenomenon. It is where hypotheses and experimentation allow us to obtain laws or principles that define nature in different areas and hence, allow us to develop as a society.
What phrase defines your experience in the USA?
A complete and enriching experience, learning about different realities, people and problems that made me rethink the future we want along with 19 other people with integrity and dreams of making this a better world.
What would you like to achieve as a scientist?
I would like the world to be more sustainable in all aspects, where science, technology and engineering can come together to work and investigate more planet-friendly methods, where the development of knowledge is at the service of society, the country and the world. Specifically, I would like to achieve more sustainable and efficient constructive and investigative methods with greater access to those who need it the most.
