Undoubtedly the digital and technological world is on the rise in search of responding to social, economic and environmental problems. There is an indivisible link between the generation of new technologies and the processes of research and development and innovation (R + D + i). This is what we were able to verify during the pandemic, mainly with the dilemma of the manufacture of vaccines and ventilators.

In various instances we have stressed the opportunity offered by the STEAM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, for its acronym in English) for sustainable development. Today, we want to refer specifically to the technological development in Artificial Intelligence (AI), defined as "the science and ingenuity of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs", and the role played by women in this area of knowledge. New times demand more and more AI specialists globally. However, as indicated by The Gender Global Report, only 22% are women, which is one reason why it is urgent to address this gap promptly. The purpose is not to backtrack on equity and to value the STEAM disciplines.

Chilean Association of Women in Artificial Intelligence

It is for this reason that our Association, through this Vice Presidency and in a binding work developed by the STEAM Girls program, has decided to collaborate in the creation of the Chilean Association of Women in IA, a space that aims to support women in Artificial Intelligence, bringing together experts in the field to share best practices and networking internationally to inspire women of all generations to pursue careers in AI.

We want to invite our members to join this initiative and to participate in the official launch on July 7 at 4:00 p.m., broadcast on our Facebook. Tell them that this event has been organized by the Global Naval Research Office and the United States Embassy in Santiago in conjunction with the American Spaces network in Chile, the Chile-United States Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (STIC) and our Association.

We look forward in seeing you and we will be attentive to your questions.
